Dr. David Saldanha

Dr. David Saldanha, is a highly qualified and experienced interventional radiologist with sub specialization in minimally invasive vascular intervention and expertise in treating patients with a wide range of arterial and venous problems.

With a dual specialty in diagnostic and endovascular interventional radiology, a residency in diagnostic radiology, and fellowship in vascular and interventional radiology at the University of Illinois Hospital, Dr. Saldanha, began his practice in 2013 at Swedish American Hospital. Since then he has built a large practice bringing specialty vascular medicine to the patients of Rockford. His goal has always been simple: bring the forefront of big city academia procedures locally to the residents of Northwest Illinois.

With over a decade of specialized experience in peripheral arterial and venous disease, Dr. Saldanha is a true expert in his field. He has a focus on revascularization of microvasculature in the arterial system as well as brought exposure to the number of venous procedures that have traditionally been underutilized to help patients seeking help and answers that are often not well known to even amongst physicians. He has extensive experience in the treatment of acute and chronic deep venous thrombus, May Thurner disease, varicose veins, and secondary skin diseases such as telangiectasias, lower extremity discoloration, and ulcerations.

His particular interests in minimally invasive vascular interventions include cosmetic varicose vein removal, specifically patients with difficult to treat, or recurrent, or large varicose veins. His method involves utilizing the same mindset he applies to more complex areas of his practice, and doing so locally, focusing those techniques intensely and creatively in order to achieve the cosmetic outcome desired by the patient. These areas include advanced minimally invasive therapies in other vascular diseases, such as microcirculatory pathology associated with Critical Limb Ischemia, complex recanalization techniques for both small vessel arterial disease, and deeper vein issues including acute and chronic deep venous thrombus, pulmonary emboli, post-thrombotic syndrome, and chronic venous insufficiency.

Throughout his academic and professional career, Dr. Saldanha has received numerous honors and awards, including a Society of Interventional Radiology Resident-In-Training Scholarship, Junior Chief and Senior Chief resident positions, and a placed in the top 25% of his medical school graduating class, in addition to high honors in several specific specialties in medical school. He is also a member of several professional organizations, including the Society of Interventional Radiology.

Dr. Saldanha holds a dual board certification in diagnostic radiology and vascular and interventional radiology from the American Board of Radiology. He completed his residency in diagnostic radiology and fellowship in vascular and interventional radiology at the University of Illinois Hospital. He also holds a preliminary year internship in internal medicine from Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center and an M.D. from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine. He also has a dual degree in Biochemistry and Economics from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
